Ham Steak in Love Sauce

What You Need:

1 T butter
1 ham steak 1 inch thick
4 T brown sugar
1/3 C apple cider vinegar
1 t dry mustard
3 C strawberries, halved
1/2 t cinnamon
1/4 t cloves
1/4 t ginger
1/8 t nutmeg

How to Make It:

Place the butter in a skillet over medium heat and allow the butter to melt completely.
Put the ham steak in the skillet and brown for 3 minutes.
Turn the steak and continue browning an additional 2 minutes.
Remove the steak from the skillet and place in a shallow baking dish.
Set the oven temperature to 300 degrees and allow the oven to preheat.
Place the brown sugar in a bowl.
Pour the vinegar over the top of the brown sugar.
Add the dry mustard and whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Spread the mixture evenly over the ham.
Place the strawberries into a saucepan.
Sprinkle all the spices onto the strawberries.
Place the pan over low heat and stirring often, simmer the strawberries for 15 minutes.
Immediately pour the strawberry mixture over the entire ham steak.
Cover the baking dish loosely with foil.
Bake 1 hour.
Allow the ham to stand in the baking dish for 10 minutes before cutting.

Serves: 2

Don’t want to go to all the trouble of making the strawberry sauce?  Use strawberry preserves in their place.
